Customized Treatment Plans

At Golden Cognitive Rehab, I follow a treatment approach that takes into consideration each patient's unique needs and health goals. As your occupational therapist, I work closely with you and do the following:

  • Create an individualized treatment plan based on each person's unique needs.
  • Collaborate with each person to identify challenges and create meaningful goals.

  • Communicate with other care providers to make recommendations or referrals, as needed.
  • Use evidence-based treatment to ensure the highest quality of care.

What to expect?

During our first appointment a functional cognitive screen is completed. This involves identifying areas where you are struggling cognitively, emotionally, physically and functionally. From there, individualized goals and a treatment plan is created to help improve function and coping ability.

During our sessions, you will learn to use tools and strategies to be as independent as possible. You will be taught ways to strengthen your attention, memory, processing speed and executive functions.

Who is a typical client?

Clients who seek therapy with me have been in a car accident, had a fall or some type of accident resulting in a concussion/mild traumatic brain injury. Many report prolonged symptoms and may have developed post-concussion syndrome.

Common symptoms I see: feeling overloaded/ overwhelmed, constant fatigue, sleep difficulties, headaches, anxiety, frustration and anger, depressed mood, low motivation, limited attention or concentration, difficulty following instructions, poor reading comprehension, poor short term memory, word finding difficulties, light or sound sensitivity, vision problems, vertigo or dizziness, loss of balance.

The clients I see report difficulties dealing with day-to-day life and worry that they will never get back to “normal”. They may be struggling to keep up with demands at work, school or managing their personal life. They may be missing appointments, forgetting to make appointments, have trouble scheduling their day, have a hard time concentrating or getting distracted easily, have trouble planning and organizing activities.

It is my aim to help my clients improve daily function and quality of life.

A concussion, even a mild one, is a traumatic brain injury.

It can occur when you have suffered a direct blow to your head or even if you haven’t. It can occur just from your brain rattling around inside your head. Each concussion is unique and so are the symptoms that one may experience. Common symptoms include: headaches, insomnia, fatigue, mood changes, memory and attention issues.

Are you asking yourself, “Why am I not getting better after my concussion? Post-concussion syndrome is a complex disorder in which various symptoms last for weeks and sometimes months after the injury that caused the concussion.” (Mayo clinic)

Some people who suffer a concussion find that their symptoms resolve after 2-8 weeks. However, many others continue to experience a variety of symptoms long after the original brain injury.

Post-concussion syndrome can be difficult to treat. However, if you see the right providers and seek the right treatment, you can fully recover from your concussion and your post concussion syndrome symptoms.

Teletherapy (Virtual Visits)

During these times of uncertainty, having access to reliable care from the comfort and safety of your home is vital. All you need is an internet connection and I can help you right from your living room. Appointments can be scheduled in hours of the day most convenient for you.

If you’re unsure if this is a good fit, no worries. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation. Tell me what's wrong and I'll tell you how I can help.

The traditional treatment plan consists of the free phone consultation then virtual visits once per week for 1 hour. The recommended number of visits varies from person to person depending on individualized treatment plans. After the consultation, therapy services are billed at an hourly rate.
